Post 3: "Apple store of 2106"

Our short project was “The apple store in 2106” and my idea was that the building will be set in ground just so apple could keep being accessible for everyone. To make the apple store really noticeable I decided to make the building the actual shape of their logo that is the apple. The store though would be on top of a rectangular building for support and that building in the bottom served as a museum that showed the apple products from the beginning to their present day and then it would have some stairs in the center to take one up to the actual apple store.
In the apple store there would be two floors and all the products would be there. The apple building would be made out of glass and the bottom building would be made out of steal and concrete.

Also, at night, when the store is closed the apple building will soar up in the sky and start glowing in different colors to make it look like a really big “star” in the sky  just to show that the apple company is very powerful and then the building will come back down again and the routine continues.

Post 2: Thermal Baths Vals

The Thermal Bath building is a very extraordinary hotel because it is underground. It was built in Switzerland in the years 1993-1996. It is very beautiful because it is surrounded by nature. The roofs are decorated with grass, which completely makes it blend with the nature surrounding it.
I like that aside from having exterior natural beauty it also has beauty from the interior. In the interior it is full of swimming pools and Jacuzzis. The really cool part about this building is the color that the architect decided to use in the pools. For example, to show that the water was low temperature he would use the color blue because blue is a cold color and when the water was warm or hot he put a red color because red is a warm color.

I also liked the idea that this place is to have a relaxing time and to not worry about time at all and so the architect made a clock where it was unnoticeable. The clock was in a shape of a tub and if anybody wanted to look at the time they had to go over and look at it themselves which I really did find that a relaxing place. A great comfort and structural form, an excellent building I believe.

Week 3 Post 1: Field Trip to Stanford University

In this field trip I had a lot of fun because the first time that I had gone to see the university I thought that it was very interesting because of all the designs that it had but I never put too much deep attention to all the descriptions added to each building. For example, I didn’t think about “Why did the architect do it this way and not this way?” or “Why did he or she use this type of material or colors?” These kinds of questions I would ask myself and so I really liked it because to me it meant that I was really digging this architect mind and it was making me very happy that I could see what the architect was seeing when he or she were designing the building. One of the buildings that made me think like that was the church because of all the colors it had and of how the entrances where shaped all like arcs and also how the inside was so peaceful and so beautiful.
One of the things in the field trip that I really enjoyed about the field trip were the sculptures’ because of the reasoning behind their creature. I really liked how most of them were actual people that lived. One particular sculpture that I was fond of was the The Burghers of Calais sculpture because the story behind this sculpture was that 6 men from the French city of Calais gave up their lives so that their whole kingdom could be free. I found this very emotional and really admired the work of the architect because of the positions of the sculptures and their face expressions fit perfectly with what was going on.

Another sculpture that I also found very were The Gates to Hell. The name is attractive, catches one’s attention but I also thought that the sculpture itself was beautiful even though it wasn’t finished. The way that the architect made the humans face and body feel like if they were being tortured which is the total combination to “hell”, and it makes one want to see beyond the sculpture and actually see those expressions alive; Such a very interesting sculpture.

Post 3: Short Project

“A house with a memorable stair” was the short project that we had to do. In my house, I decided to put it in a place near the ocean because being able to have a view of the ocean is very pretty to me. I decided to put stairs in the front door to have some kind of originality in a house and when the people were walking on the stairs they would be surrounded by a lot of green plants and trees just so that they would have a good feeling once they enter the house. Then as one enters the house they come across a pair of stairs with the shape of a DNA structure because I like the idea of having a pair of stairs that cross each other and intertwine. They are covered with a glass wall so that when the people are almost to the top they feel secure. Once the people get to the top they find themselves to be on a balcony where they can fully experience the flow of the ocean. They can hear and see the animal creatures that are in the ocean and the air and feel the breeze and the hot rays of the sun.

Post 2: The House of Sugimoto

I thought that The House of Sugimoto that was created in 1743 in Kyoto was very boring when the documentary that we were watching was beginning because I saw nothing interesting in it. The building had no windows, so no sun would be able to come inside only artificial light was used to illuminate the house. All the walls were connected, which made me think that there was no privacy in the house because all the walls were connected. In order for one person to go out of the room it had to cross a room and I thought that if I was to live there I wouldn’t like it because I love to have my own privacy and I want to be able to wake up whenever I want to not when someone else crosses my room. Also, I wouldn’t like if my siblings or mother would go into my room without my permission because I consider a room to be a very private place in a house.
But, when the movie kept playing I thought that the house was getting more interesting because of the values that the family has inside it. For example, the storage that was further from the street was because they valued a lot what it contained and took great care of it. As well as they took care of their garden which I thought was very precious because it was very clean, very green, very beautiful, very sculptural like which is the reason why I though that it was used for a meditation area because it was quiet and just so beautiful to feel relaxed- the perfect place.

The building is very old and what I admire a lot about it is that it still stands aside from going through earthquakes, wars, and fires. A very beautiful piece of art that this building is- very interesting. I feel like it expresses a lot with out speaking, just seeing it talks a lot.
