Post 2: Thermal Baths Vals

The Thermal Bath building is a very extraordinary hotel because it is underground. It was built in Switzerland in the years 1993-1996. It is very beautiful because it is surrounded by nature. The roofs are decorated with grass, which completely makes it blend with the nature surrounding it.
I like that aside from having exterior natural beauty it also has beauty from the interior. In the interior it is full of swimming pools and Jacuzzis. The really cool part about this building is the color that the architect decided to use in the pools. For example, to show that the water was low temperature he would use the color blue because blue is a cold color and when the water was warm or hot he put a red color because red is a warm color.

I also liked the idea that this place is to have a relaxing time and to not worry about time at all and so the architect made a clock where it was unnoticeable. The clock was in a shape of a tub and if anybody wanted to look at the time they had to go over and look at it themselves which I really did find that a relaxing place. A great comfort and structural form, an excellent building I believe.

  1. This is a nice and informative post. I wish you could tell us also about your personal reaction. Do you think this building fits well its purposes? Why do you think such an apparently plane and modern building fits well in this environment?

  2. I do think that this building fits its purpose because it is made for relaxation and people find that very relaxing, so it definitely fits its purpose. I also think that this building fits well in that environment because it has natural grass growing on top of the building and nature is supposed to be a relaxing place and that building suits the purpose of nature as well. And thanks Rafael, I will take your advice.
